Banish Misfortune in D Mixolydian — Jig | Tenor Banjo TAB & D Whistle Fingering

Japanese version: Banish Misfortune（Dミクソリディアン・Jig）｜バンジョーTABとD管ホイッスル運指

The three-part jig “Banish Misfortune” has been converted with ABC2Tab for GDAE tenor banjo and D tin whistle. In addition to standard notation, the diagrams show the banjo string and fret and the whistle’s six-hole fingering for every note.

Both scores place all 24 measures in four-measure systems, for 6 systems in total. The notation preserves both the characteristic C natural and the cadential C sharp found in this setting.

Six circles appear below every note. A filled circle means covered, an open circle means uncovered, and the top circle is nearest the mouthpiece. This setting contains zero notes that are unsupported on a D whistle.

Note names appear above the staff and the TAB appears below it. The strings are tuned G-D-A-E from lowest to highest. Numbers indicate frets, and 0 indicates an open string.

How to practise

1. Count 6/8 as “1-2-3, 4-5-6,” with a light emphasis on beats 1 and 4.
2. Isolate the measures with C natural and the cadential C sharp so the two fingerings stay distinct.
3. Connect the tune four measures at a time, then play the A, B, and C parts in sequence.
